TinyCo is a mobile game developer that has raised $20 million in a new round of funding from Pinnacle Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, and several other investors.  Andreessen Horowitz also led an $18 million round of funding in TinyCo back in 2011.  The new round of funding will go towards hiring and game development through 2014.

TinyCo CEO Suleman Ali said that the company hopes to make more games that players get sucked into within the first five minutes that they want to share with their friends.  ArenaNet co-founder Mike O’Brien is joining Ali and Marc Andreessen on the board of directors.

It hasn’t been all good news for TinyCo.  The company laid off around 27 employees last month.

“Mobile gamers aren’t stupid — they want more from the market than uninspired clones and low production values,” stated Ali. “The only path forward is to produce games that bring something special to the table. That’s why we’ve taken the time to improve our processes and tighten our focus. We have to develop bigger, better games.”
