August
August is a home automation startup that is known for making a “smart” lock product.  The smart-lock uses virtual keys.  August has raised $8 million in Series A so that they can bring the product to the market next spring. August’s Series A round of funding was led by Maveron with participation from Cowboy Ventures, Industry Ventures, Rho Ventures and SoftTech VC.

August previously raised $2 million in a seed round from angel investors like Matt Mullenweg, Mark Pincus, and several others.  August was co-founded by Yves Behar and Jason Johnson.

August’s smart lock product supports Bluetooth and it works with a mobile application to send virtual keys to anyone that you want to have access to your home.  David Wu of Maveron will be joining the August board of directors.
