Someone Bid $1.8 Million On A Desk Designed By Apple Exec Jony Ive

Designers Jony Ive (Apple exec) and Marc Newson partnered to organize a (RED) Auction on November 23rd at Sotheby’s in New York City.  The auction raised over $23 million for The Global Fund, which is an organization that helps fight AIDs in Africa.

The two of them worked with U2 lead singer, Bono, on the auction.  The Leica Digital Rangefinder sold for $1.8 million and the aluminum desk created by Neal Feay Studio raked in $1.7 million.

The “Steinway & Sons Red Pops for (RED)” Parlor Grand Piano hit around a dozen bidders and was won by philanthropist Stewart Rahr for $1.9 million.
