FDA Tells 23AndMe To Halt Genetic Test Sales

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has informed 23andMe to halt their genetic test.  The genetic test was used for predicting the chances of diseases.  Apparently, the personalized DNA test kits said that 23andMe failed to show that the technology is backed by science.

FDA regulators said that 23andMe is violating federal law because their products claim to identify health risks for over 250 diseases and health conditions. Medical tests that have been cleared by the FDA can make these claims. 23andMe was founded by Anne Wojcicki and Linda Avey. Wojcicki married Google co-founder Sergey Brin in 2007, but they are now separated.

23andMe has over $160 million in funding from investors such as Google, Mohr Davidow Ventures, New Enterprise Associates, Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation, MPM Capital, and Yuri Milner.
