Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) Rumored To Be Working On Kindle Paperwhite With High-Res Display
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is rumored to be working on a new Kindle Paperwhite with 300 pixels per inch (ppi). The new Kindle Paperwhite is expected to arrive in Q2 2014. The new Kindle Paperwhite e-reader would have 300 ppi compared to the current 212 ppi in the current model. The device has the code-name Ice Wine, which would also have hardware improvements.
The 212 ppi in the current model has lower quality that the 265 ppi screen in the Kobo Aura HD. There are no major software improvements planned for this edition. TechCrunch reports that Amazon was upset about the current Kindle Paperwhite getting a lower resolution than the Aura HD.
The supplier for the Pearl E Ink screens is E Ink. E Ink makes the screens for Amazon and Kobo. The edges of the new Kindle is expected to have squeezable buttons rather than split buttons.
