Canalys: 285M Tablets To Be Bought In 2014 And 400M In 2017
Canalys has released a new report that suggests the tablet market will not be slowing down. Next year over 285 million tablets will be bought and the market will hit 400 million in 2017. Next year, tablet sales will hit 50% of all PC sales. PC sales are tablets, desktops, and laptops. Tablets are responsible for the PC market growth. Apple and Samsung will be struggling to maintain their marketshare in the future though.
“Apple’s decline in PC market share is unavoidable when considering its business model. Samsung narrowly took the lead in EMEA this quarter and Apple will lose its position to competitors in more markets in the future,” stated Canalys analyst Tim Coulling.
“Vendors such as Acer, Asus, HP, and Lenovo have all entered the price war, with entry-level products at sub-U.S. $150 price points,” stated said Canalys analyst James Wang.
Microsoft’s tablet partners have been rapidly growing. Their market share has more than doubled from a year ago. Android now has a 65% tablet share and Apple has about 30%.
