Booking.com buys web messaging company eBuddy
eBuddy is a Dutch software company that is known for offering messaging services on mobile devices and desktop browsers. eBuddy has been acquired by Booking.com, an accommodation booking company that is also based in The Netherlands. The acquisition was an “acqui-hire,” which means that the deal was driven by the talent behind the company over the actual product. eBuddy will be shutting down and their employees will work on other Booking.com projects.
“For over 9 years we have been offering Chat and messaging products for hundreds of millions of users worldwide. Together with Booking.com we are excited to add our experience and enthusiasm to their team in Amsterdam. We really enjoyed the years of building great eBuddy products and are very excited participating in building out Booking.com’s great product,” said the companies in a statement.
One of the companies that will benefit from the transaction is the Japanese mobile company, GREE. GREE invested a minority stake in eBuddy.
