Bitstrips is a social comic creation app company that has raised $3 million in Series A funding. You may be know Bitstrips as the company that produces comics that appears often on your Facebook News Feed. In the past two months, Bitstrips has created over 30 million avatars. You use the app to create an avatar to use in comics that can be created using pre-made elements in a composer.

“Bitstrips has been growing steadily for a long time, but the launch of the mobile app made it possible for people to create comics anytime, anywhere,” stated Bitstrips CEO Jacob Blackstock. “Life is full of moments that are made to be ‘bitstripped,’ and now people can share those moments instantly in comic form. It’s this instantaneous aspect of the mobile experience that enabled Bitstrips to go viral so rapidly.”

Bitstrips did not spend any money on marketing or on press. Their growth came mostly from Facebook Timelines. This new round of funding came from Li Ka-shing’s Horizons Ventures.
