FacialNetwork.com creates facial recognition app for Google Glass
FacialNetwork.com has created real-time facial recognition technology for Google Glass. The app was not developed by Google, but rather a third party developer group. The name of the app that FacialNetwork.com created is called NameTag. Below is a video demo of a few people using the app to recognize celebrities and people in the room. NameTag combs through a library of faces from social networks, criminal databases, and the National Sex Offender Registry.
“I believe that this will make online dating and offline social interactions much safer and give us a far better understanding of the people around us. It’s much easier to meet interesting new people when we can simply look at someone, see their Facebook, review their LinkedIn page or maybe even see their dating site profile,” stated NameTag creator Kevin Alan Tussy. “Often we were interacting with people blindly or not interacting at all. NameTag on Google Glass can change all that.”
Google has not approved any facial recognition apps due to privacy issues. However, NameTag said that they will push to convince Google to change their mind.
