Amazon sold over 36.8 million items on Cyber Monday
Amazon.com has reported that the 2013 shopping season was their biggest so far in terms of sales and services. Amazon.com announced that on Cyber Monday, over 36.8 million items were ordered worldwide. This is up from 26.5 million items last year.
Based on these figures, around 426 items were purchased per second. Amazon Prime gained over 1 million new members in the third week of December.
At the top of Amazon’s best-seller charts were Kindles and the Kindle Fire tablets. Around 1,000 Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles were sold per minute at its peak. In 2013, the Prime Instant Video catalog grew from 33,000 to around 40,000 movies and TV episodes in 2013. Amazon.com received the exclusive rights to shows like Downton Abbey and Justified.
