Skype gets hacked by Syrian Electronic Army
Skype’s Twitter and Facebook account has been hacked as well with their blog. The Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) claims to be responsible for the hack. The SEA said that they want Skype to stop spying on the public.
Skype took control of everything within the day and has deleted the hacker messages.
“We recently became aware of a targeted cyber attack that led to access to Skype’s social media properties, but these credentials were quickly reset. No user information was compromised,” said Skype in a blog post.
The hackers were likely agitated by the surveillance programs that were leaked by former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden. The documents that were leaked about the NSA PRISM program indicates that the agency would be able to spy on Skype audio and video calls.
