Target: 70 million user profiles were compromised
Target Corporation announced an update today in their investigation of their recent data breach and it is expected to affect their fourth quarter financial performance. Aside from the payment card data that was taken during the data breach, the personal information of around 70 million individuals was taken.
“I know that it is frustrating for our guests to learn that this information was taken and we are truly sorry they are having to endure this,” stated Target chairman, president, and CEO Gregg Steinhafel. “I also want our guests to know that understanding and sharing the facts related to this incident is important to me and the entire Target team.”
Target said that guests will have zero liability for the cost of any fraudulent charges arising from the breach. Target is offering one year of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection to all guests that shopped U.S. stores.
