Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) reportedly to unveil Windows 9 this April

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) may reveal the Windows 9 operating system (code-named Threshold) at the Build conference this April. According to tech blogger Paul Thurrott, Microsoft is going to drop the Windows 8 branding in favor of Windows 9 due to the negative perception that people have of the software giant’s newest operating system.

“To distance itself from the Windows 8 debacle, Microsoft is currently planning to drop the Windows 8 name and brand this next release as Windows 9. That could change, but that’s the current thinking,” said Thurrott. “Maturing and fixing the ‘Metro’ design language used by Windows will be a major focus area of Threshold.”

It is believed that Microsoft will showcase the vision of Windows 9 along with providing an update to Windows 8.1. At the Build conference, Microsoft may also show a miniature version of the Surface tablet.

Windows 9 is expected to full launch by April 2015.
