AMD launches Kaveri APUs

AMD Kaveri
Advanced Micro Devices has launched their new HSA-enabled “Kaveri” accelerated processors (APUs), which includes a pair of chips for small desktop PCs. The AMD A10-7850K desktop APU combines a 3.7GHz (4GHz in Turbo mode) and quad-core CPU with 8 Radeon R7 graphics processing cores. The A10-7700K has four central processing cores (3.4GHz clock or 3.8GHz in Turbo mode) and six GPU cores. Both of the APUs are available starting today. The A10-7850K has a price of $173 and the A10-7700K costs $152.

“AMD maintains our technology leadership with the 2014 AMD A-Series APUs, a revolutionary next-generation APU that marks a new era of computing,” stated Bernd Lienhard, corporate vice president and general manager of the AMD Client Business Unit. “With world-class graphics and compute technology on a single chip, the AMD A-Series APU is an effective and efficient solution for our customers and enables industry-leading computing experiences.”

AMD is expecting to launch another Kaveri-class APU in the first quarter of the year called the A8-7600. The A8-7600 has four x86-based CPU cores and six Radeon R7 GPU cores. This chip will cost $119. The new Kaveri APUs allocate around 47% of die space to 700MHz graphics processing and they support AMD’s TrueAudio and Eyefinity technologies.
