There is a new device that is debuting at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month. The Blackphone is a carrier and vendor independent smartphone, which is powered by a customized version of Android software called PrivatOS. The price of the Blackphone is not yet known. The Blackphone supports the same features that you expect from a smartphone, but it gives you full privacy.

“You can make and receive secure phone calls; exchange secure texts; exchange and store secure files; have secure video chat; browse privately; and anonymise your activity through a VPN (virtual private network),” states the Blackphone website.

The Blackphone competes directly again BlackBerry’s encryption features and Samsung Knox. Privacy has become a hot topic in the past year due to the leaks from former National Security Agency Edward Snowden.

The National Security Agency allegedly hacked into main communication links that connects accounts at Google and Yahoo!
