Ericsson CEO Hans Vestberg may be a candidate for Microsoft CEO position
Microsoft added Ericsson CEO Hans Vestberg in the short list of potential CEOs for Microsoft. Vestberg could potentially replace Microsoft’s outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer, according to Bloomberg. Vestberg, 48, is on the list with former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, Microsoft EVP Tony Bates, and Microsoft’s cloud and enterprise chief Satya Nadella.
Ballmer has been head of Microsoft for the past 13 years. He announced in August that he would be retiring within 12 months. Vestberg has been working at Ericsson for 25 years. He became CEO of Ericsson in 2012 after working as COO from 2007 to 2009. While serving as CEO, Vestberg oversaw the separation of Sony Ericsson, a 10 year joint venture between Sony and Ericsson.
Ericsson made a deal with Microsoft last September for the Mediaroom IPTV platform business, which provides software for powering many leading Internet-delivered TV services like AT&T U-verse and Deutsche Telekom’s Entertain.
