Chinese government announces their own mobile operating system called COS

Chinese Flag
The country of China has created their own mobile operating system called the China Operating System (COS). The Chinese government wants to try and dethrone the smartphone market domination of Google Android and Apple iOS. The mobile operating system is state-approved and government funded. It was developed by China’s Institute of Software at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISCAS) and Shanghai Liantong Network Communications Technology, according to ZDNet.

The COS mobile operating system is based on Linux and works on PCs, smartphones, set-top boxes, and tablets. It also supports HTML5 applications. COS is not going to be open source though. There is also one application portal.

There are currently about 100,000 applications available for COS. COS is very Android-like and some people in China are questioning how the OS was able to launch with 100,000 apps. Some people are saying that it is just an OS is just a strong imitation of Android.
