How a woman in South Korea makes $9,000 letting people watch her eat
There is a new trend in South Korea coined “gastronomic voyeurism,” meaning that people watch others eat online. Park Seo-yeon (“The Diva”) is making over $9,000 for cooking interesting dishes and eating them in front of a webcam.
People tune in to chat with her and send virtual gifts that can be converted into cash. Seo-yeon quit her full-time job at a consulting company due to the success of this venture.
“It feels as if I am eating that much food with her. I think that’s what the show is about. And probably, it’s comforting for people who eat alone,” said a person in an interview with Reuters. Check out the video above.
