FiftyThree wants Facebook to change their new app name from Paper
FiftyThree is known for creating a popular mobile app called Paper, which has the same name as Facebook’s newest app. The Paper app lets you put together sketches on your iPad in the same way that you would with a regular sheet of paper. FiftyThree reached out to Facebook to change their name and issued a public statement about it.
“We were really surprised when we heard that Facebook was releasing an app called Paper,” stated Georg Petschnigg, co-founder and chief executive of FiftyThree in an interview with The New York Times. The Paper app was trademarked in the U.S. and several other countries. The Paper app was also named as the Best App of the Year in 2012 by Apple.
“We have, in writing, asked Facebook to refrain from using the name,” added Petschnigg said. ”But their response was that they apologized for not letting us know sooner, but as it stands, they are continuing with their launch.”
Petschnigg said that he was going to see how Facebook responded on Monday to decide what his company will do next.
