DIY Lifestyle app Trusper raises $6.17 million in funding
Founded by Jack Jia, Trusper is a mobile app development company that has raised $6.17 million in funding. This round of funding was provided by DCM with participation Charles Schwab and several other angel investors. David Chao of DCM will receive a seat on the board of directors.
Trusper has over 5 million users that use the app for beauty tips. Around 70% of the company’s users are women aged between 17 and 36 and 19% are between ages 13 to 17. Anybody can post a tip to the website and gain followers. The most active users have around 20,000-30,000 people tracking their tips. Some of the tips include fashion, beauty, and food. One of the examples of beauty is how to make lipstick with crayons. The content sounds similar to what gets posted to Pinterest.
“We created a point system to control our user base,” stated Jia in an interview with TechCrunch. “With a social networking site it’s like running a city of 5 million. You need every bit of institutions that a small city would have to regulate its community.”
