Nissan is recalling almost 1 million vehicles due to airbags
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (OTCMKTS:NSANY) is recalling almost a million vehicles in North America due to a defect in the front passenger airbag, which may not deploy in an accident. Nissan did not indicate if the defect was involved in any accidents in a letter sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
According to CNBC, two accidents were linked to this issue though. The software in the affected vehicles may misclassify “an occupied front passenger seat as empty,” said Nissan. The recall affects 989,701 vehicles made between 2013 and 2014 across the Altima sedan and electric Leaf.
Nissan is not the only auto giant that is in the midst of a recall. General Motors recalled 1.6 million vehicles last month, which was linked to 12 deaths since 2001.
