Stratasys buys 3D filament researcher Interfacial Solutions

Stratasys is a 3D printing company that runs Makerbot. Stratasys has now acquired Wisconsin-based plastic filament company Interfacial Solutions. The financial details of the acquisition were undisclosed. By acquiring Interfacial Solutions, Stratasys will be able to manufacture the hardware and the filament.

“Interfacial Solutions provides significant expertise in plastics and filament,” stated David Reis, CEO of Stratasys. “We believe its knowledgeable team and experience will accelerate Stratasys’ materials development efforts for all of our FDM platforms, including MakerBot.” The acquisition will be closed in Q2 2014.

Interfacial Solutions has an R&D facility near River Falls, Wisconsin. The company is led by a creative team of scientists in a 42,000 square foot facility. The company holds over 50 issued patents.
