Google to license hotel booking software from Room 77

Google will soon let you reserve a hotel room from your smartphone and will be licensing software related to that functionality through Room 77. Room 77 is a startup that is backed by Expedia. Room 77 co-founder and chief technology officer Calvin Yang said that many of its engineers are joining Google.

Google is investing a lot of time and money into making travel integration into search bigger and more exciting.

You may recall that Google spent $700 million in acquiring ITA Software in 2011. ITA Software is known for offering flight information. Google also has a service called Hotel Finder that scans prices and availability from online travel agents.

Located at under three miles away, Room 77 is physically near Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California.
