Dart is the “world’s smallest laptop adapter” that is now on Kickstarter

An MIT spin-off called FINsix created the “world’s smallest” 65W laptop adapter called the Dart. The Dart project is now on Kickstarter and costs as low as $79 per unit. The charge is four times smaller and six times lighter than other adapters. It also comes with a 2.1A USB port. It uses highly efficient very high frequency (VHF) power conversion that was patented by MIT.

The Dart is compatible with most laptops. There is a Dart product for MacBooks that do not need more than 65W of power. The first 1,000 backers would be able to get a standard Dart for $79 each, but later donators would pay an extra $10. The retail price will be $119 when it fully launches. We won’t see it hit the shelves until November though.

The limited MacBook version is expected to arrive in December. The first 500 units will cost $148 each and then $168 each for the remaining 1,500 units. Why this price? The company has to buy original MacBook adapters ($79 each) to repurpose the MagSafe and MagSafe 2 connectors for the Darts. FINsix is looking to make a long-term agreement with Apple to offer the MagSafe Dart at a lower price.

The Dart charger will be available in blue, magenta, silver, gunmetal, or orange. The plug works in different voltages and frequencies around the world.
