How the Oculus Rift was used by this dying grandmother

Facebook acquired Oculus for $2 billion recently. Oculus VR is a company that builds the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. One of the best ways that the Rift was used was when video game artist Priscilla Firstenberg used the Oculus Rift development kit to enable her sick grandmother to take a final tour of the yard outside of her home.

Her grandmother Roberta Firstenberg is suffering from cancer and lacked the strength to go outdoors. Priscilla asked Oculus VR for a development kit for this reason and immediately received a return loan unit immediately.

After the Oculus Rift was connected, Roberta was able to take a walk virtually around outdoors. Priscilla was able to hook up a Google Street View simulator to let her grandmother travel further. Around four weeks after Roberta grandmother used the Oculus Rift to walk outside, she passed away.

“I can’t believe it, I mean you hear about things like that… it’s just like dropping into a mirage, dropping straight down into a bubble of new life. It’s beautiful,” said Roberta after using the Rift for the first time.
