Apple Inc. (AAPL) TV gets A&E, History, and Lifetime channels

Apple TV
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has added three new channels to the Apple TV streaming media player: A&E, The History Channel, and Lifetime. These channels require a cable subscription to unlock the full content. The most recent episodes of shows are available without unlocking the channels. Each channel only supports DirecTV, Verizon FiOS, and Cablevision Optimum, but the network says it will add support for more providers soon.

A&E debuted live TV streaming in its iPad apps a week ago with support for a range of cable providers that are not listed by the Apple TV channels like Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Bright House, and several regional cable providers. The Apple TV channels will receive new episodes the day after they air.

These channels feature full episodes from TV shows like Duck Dynasty, Bates Motel, American Pickers, and Pawn Stars. Each of these new channels are limited to Apple TV customers in the U.S. at launch. Right before this channel roll out, Apple TV added support for WWE Network’s new subscription service when launching. The new version of the Apple TV software lets you hide unwanted Apple TV channels under the Settings channel within the Main Menu.
