NGINX now powers over 146 million websites
NGINX is a free, open-source, and high-performance HTTP server that is now powering over 146 million websites. This is up from 96 million a year ago, which is a 52% year-over-year increase. Of the top 1,000 websites on the web, nearly 39% now use NGINX.
NGINX has released version 1.6 of the product’s stable release channel and version 1.7 into the mainline channel.
“We’ve had a great twelve months and v1.6 and 1.7 updates are just the beginning of another successful year,” stated Gus Robertson, the CEO of NGINX, today. “With a strong commitment to our open-source user community, we have some major features planned that will help our users continue to benefit from NGINX’s expertise in high-performance web application delivery.”
NGINX will be launching a couple of major improvements in the coming months, including new management tools for NGINX users that will help them manage and monitor large sets of NGINX instances. The NGINX team is going to make a number of architectural improvements to take advantage of new features in the Linux kernel. This will be useful for architectural improvements that serve and cache large amounts of content, which will be used by companies like WordPress, Pinterest, Groupon, and Tumblr. NGINX will be launching a third-party module API that will allow for dynamic loading of modules.
