Google Inc (GOOGL) expands Google Shopping Express to LA and Manhattan
Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has announced that it is expanding its same-day delivery business, Google Shopping Express. The same day delivery service is moving into Manhattan and West Los Angeles. Specifically, Google is bringing its same-day delivery service Brooklyn and Queens in New York and Bel-Air, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood in Los Angeles in the “coming months.” Google launched Google Shopping Express in beta in San Francisco about a year ago and expand into the whole Bay Area after that.
“Google Shopping Express offers convenient same-day delivery from some of your favorite local stores, delivered to your door in a matter of hours,” said Google in a blog post. “With Google Shopping Express, there are no surcharges or mark-ups, products cost exactly what they would in-store. You can also take advantage of in-store discounts and accrue loyalty points by providing your store rewards card information.”
Google Shopping Express lets users buy goods from several national chains including Whole Foods, Staples, Walgreens, and Costco (requires membership at the store). You can get $10 off with your first order and six months without delivery charges if you opt in to the trial program.
To set up an account with Google Shopping Express, visit the website and select your city. You will need to provide billing information for Google Wallet and select the time slot for your delivery. Google does not run its own fleet of couriers. It partners with companies that wear Google Shopping Express uniforms and drives Google delivery trucks.
Google Shopping Express competes against a number of companies. Amazon recently expanded its same-day delivery service to San Francisco and Dallas. eBay is going to expand the eBay Now service to 25 cities. There are also a number of services that offer delivery services like Deliv, Instacart, and Postmates.
