Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA) cancels Model E trademark filing
Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has cancelled its Model E trademark filing, which means that the name of its future lower-cost sedan vehicle may be subject to change. Tesla Motors has been internally referring to the Model E as the “Gen 3” vehicle. The Gen 3 is expected to launch somewhere between 2016 and 2017.
The Gen 3 is rumored to have a range of around 200 miles and would cost around $35,000. The Gen 3 is expected to be around 25% smaller than the Model S.
Tesla may continue with the single alphabet titles for cars or give it a new name like it did with the Roadster. The “S” in Model S is believed to stand for “sedan.” The Model X will be Tesla’s all-wheel-drive crossover.
