Apple Inc. (AAPL) is the second biggest retailer after Amazon.com
Amazon.com is the top online retailer as the company sold $67.8 billion worth of products in 2013 alone. Now there is a new #2 online retailer, according to Internet Retailer. It is Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). Apple saw $18.3 billion in online sales in 2013. Apple took the position away from office supply company Staples after seeing a 24% increase in online sales.
In 2013, it was the first time that Internet Retailer included Apple’s online hardware sales, including the high-priced devices like iPhones, iPads, and Macs. This means that Apple could have held the number two spot in previous years as well. The total sales number also includes downloads through iTunes and the Apple App Store.
Staples is #3 and Wal-Mart’s online sales jumped 30% to $10 billion, putting them at #4. Best Buy is ranked #15 with $3 billion in online sales, which is a small portion of the $42 billion in its total sales last year.
