Doge Vault confirms hack

Doge Vault is an online wallet service for the cryptocurrency Dogecoin that has confirmed that it has been hacked. Millions of Dogecoin ended up missing from the wallets of users. Doge Vault said on Tuesday that “the online wallet service was compromised by attackers.” Doge Vault stopped its free service after learning about the breach. Hackers also destroyed the data hosted by the service by the time it was stopped. 

Dogecoin is a digital currency that does not have the same high value as Bitcoin. Currently, each Dogecoin is worth a small fraction of a dollar. Doge Vault is investigating the attack. Funding transfers will be halted in the meantime.

Dogecoin especially grew in popularity after donations of the currency was used to send the Jamaican bobsled team to the Winter Olympics.
