Flappy Bird is returning in August with a multiplayer mode
Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen has announced plans to return Flappy Bird to the App Store in August, according to CNBC’s Kelly Evans. Nguyen will be releasing the new version of Flappy Bird with a multiplayer mode and promises that it will be “less addictive.”
Nguyen took down Flappy Bird from the Apple App Store after it became very popular. The game was reportedly hitting $50,000 per day in revenue from in-app ads.
Nguyen took down the game due to the overwhelming amount of attention he received from the media. He also received troubling messages from Flappy Bird players about the addictiveness of the game. A woman even told him that he was “distracting the children of the world.”
When Flappy Bird was removed from the Apple App Store, hundreds of Flappy Bird-like were submitted to clone the success of the original game. The new version of the game will be a jumping game where players control a character that leaps from building-to-building.
