SpoonRocket is an online food delivery service that competes against companies like Grubhub, JustEat, Delivery Hero, and Yelp. SpoonRocket’s menu changes every day because all of the food that the company prepares is made from scratch with the freshest ingredients of that day.

SpoonRocket has raised $11 million in funding led by Foundation Capital with additional funding from General Catalyst. Paul Holland of Foundation Capital is joining the board of directors at SpoonRocket. SpoonRocket was founded in June 2013.

The company offers four fresh cooked food meals per day (two vegetarian, and two non-vegetarian) that are priced at $8 each. SpoonRocket can deliver the food in 10 minutes or less. The food is produced in-house and drivers can carry around meals for multiple customers at once.

This round of funding will be used for building out the company’s employee base. SpoonRocket currently has 50 employees and will be adding another 30 by the end of the year, including a team to improve operations and engineers.

SpoonRocket announced that it has hired Barney Brown, formerly the Executive Chef of the Rotunda Neiman Marcus as the new Senior Executive Chef. SpoonRocket is based in Berkeley and currently operates in four cities in the East Bay from 10AM to midnight. SpoonRocket also operates in San Francisco, but only during lunch hours from 11AM-2PM.
