Apple Inc. (AAPL) and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (005930) reportedly in talks to try and end legal battle
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (KRX:005930) are apparently trying to end their legal battles again. The two companies are in talks to end their legal differences out of court. The two companies have recently “resumed working-level discussions” with the main discussion being how to dismiss all lawsuits, according to The Korea Times.
Samsung and Apple went through another court battle earlier this month with a jury returning with a mixed verdict. The jury found that Samsung violated 3 of Apple’s 5 patents and was ordered to pay $119.6 million. Apple was seeking around $2.2 billion. The court ruled that Apple infringed a Samsung patent and was ordered to pay $158,400, which is less than Samsung’s $6.2 million request.
“Some more time will be needed to fix terms of details such as royalty payments in return for using patents owned by each before reaching a full agreement,” added the Times.
Apple and Google’s Motorola ended their patent wars. The two companies agreed to dismiss all patent-infringement claims against each other. The two companies agreed to work together on patent reform.
This past January, Apple and Samsung attempted to reach an out-of-court settlement for its patent battles. A mediator was not able to bring peace between the two companies though.
