AT&T Inc. (T) relaunches Cricket Wireless, shuts down Aio
Earlier this year, AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) acquired Leap Wireless for $1.2 billion, which is the parent company of Cricket Wireless. Cricket Wireless is now being relaunched by AT&T. However, AT&T will be shutting down the prepaid brand Aio Wireless. This is because AT&T did not want to run two similar brands at the same time.
AT&T also launched new prepaid plans. Cricket Wireless customers can now set up a $40 plan, which has unlimited calls, unlimited texting, and 500MB of data. The $50 and $60 plans will have 2.5GB and 5GB of data, respectively. After the data caps are hit, it will be throttled to lower speeds.
The Cricket Group Save feature is similar to the Sprint Framily plan. If customers add a second line, they will get $10 off and $20 off if a third line is added. The fourth and fifth lines brings $30 in savings each. Group Save will operate under a single bill.
