Rumor: Google is working on a tablet with 3D vision

Google is rumored to be working on a tablet version of the Project Tango advanced mobile vision device next month with 4,000 initial developer beta units, according to The WSJ. The tablet will have a 7-inch screen and a few cameras. Two cameras will be on the back that have built-in infrared sensors to determine depth and can map 3D spaces.

This past February, Google officially announced Project Tango. Tango is built into a 5-inch prototype Android device and developer kit. The project was put together by Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) division. Former DARPA researchers put together the project after Google acquired Motorola.

The goal of Google Project Tango is to give mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion.
