Former Skype head Tony Bates joins GoPro as president and board member
Tony Bates, former Skype head and Microsoft executive, is now president and a board member of video camera maker GoPro. Bates will report to GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman.
“GoPro represents everything that excites me in a company — incredible products, compelling content, a world-renowned brand and above all, amazing people who make it happen,” said Bates in a statement.
Bates was one of the first executives to depart from Microsoft after Satya Nadella was named CEO. Bates was an executive VP at Microsoft and led business development efforts. It is believed that Bates was on a shortlist to be named as the next Microsoft CEO before Nadella was slected.
Last month, GoPro filed documents with the SEC for an IPO.
