Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA): First Supercharger in Beijing is now operational
The first Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) Supercharger is now operational in Beijing confirmed spokesperson Peggy Yang in an interview with CNET. The Supercharger station in Beijing is located in the city’s north east. It is placed within a small technology park, which is the same location where Tesla Motors handed over the keys to its first 9 Model S buyers in China in late April.
The Tesla Superchargers have canopies that are covered with solar panels to offset the energy that is used from the power grid. The generated electricity is stored in battery packs. The Supercharger station sits next to Tesla’s new satellite office, which is almost completed. Tesla was criticized in China for delaying delivery of its pre-ordered Model S cars.
The delays were blamed on a lack of Superchargers and after-sales service stations for Beijing, according to PingWest. But a Tesla spokesperson clarified that despite the rumors, Tesla Motors has been delivering new cars on a weekly basis after the first nine were shipped. The first Superchargers in greater China were turned on for the public as early as April 26th followed by its first Supercharger in Beijing.
Tesla said that it opened two Supercharger stations in Shanghai with plans for more stations in Chengdu, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen before the Chinese fall season. Another Supercharger in Dalian city is also planned for the future.
