Intel Corporation (INTC) partners with WiTricity on wireless charging program
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) has announced an agreement that will allow it to integrate wireless charging technology into devices that are powered by its chips. The wireless charging technology is powered by WiTricity and adheres to the Rezence specification, which was put together by the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP). Intel and WiTricity are both board members of the A4WP.
WiTricity’s competitors include Duracell’s Powermat and products with the Wireless Power Consortium’s Qi certification. The A4WP’s Rezence near-field resonant technology lets people charge multiple devices simultaneously with differing power requirements.
“We have overwhelming feedback from end users that they are frustrated with dealing with all the different wires and power adapters for their devices – phones, tablets and PCs,” stated Sanjay Vora, Intel’s general manager of user experience. “At Intel, we have a vision to eliminate all wires from all of our platforms. This agreement is a major step in the right direction.”
