MasteryConnect buys Socrative for $5 million

MasteryConnect is an education technology company that has announced it has acquired Socratic for $5 million. MasteryConnect will hire the Socrative team into engineering roles. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Socrative builds educational games. This will increase MasteryConnect’s user base from 3 million to 21 million students.

“Small data has the power to personalize the educational experience and enable teachers to assess student mastery in real-time during instruction,” stated MasteryConnect CEO Cory Reid.

MasteryConnect previously raised $1.1 million in seed and $7.7 million in Series A funding. Michael and Susan Dell Foundation are investors in the company along with Catamount Ventures. Socrative raised $750,000 in funding.
