Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) forecasted to ship 2-3 million Fire Phones this year
Earlier this week, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) announced the Fire Phone. Amazon.com did not report how many phones they were expecting to sell nor do they disclose how many Kindles are sold every year.
However, DigiTimes is reporting that Amazon is expecting to sell around 2-3 million Fire Phones by the end of the year. This sounds ambitious because the Amazon Fire Phone is only being sold in the U.S. with an exclusive through AT&T initially. Plus Amazon does not have a cultish fan-base for their devices like Apple does.
DigiTimes reported that Foxconn will be building the Fire Phone for Amazon.com and that initial orders for 300,000-500,000 units per month have been placed. When you extrapolate those numbers, it adds up to 2-3 million units by the end of the year. Analysts are predicting that the Amazon Fire Phone will see as much success as the Kindle Fire tablets because of the U.S.-only launch and the price.
The Amazon Fire Phone costs $199 with a two-year contract on AT&T and the unlocked 64GB version of the phone costs $749.
