Amazon.com has launched free and ad-supported TV episodes along with a music video service for its iOS app. The Amazon Instant Video app on iOS now has free episodes for certain TV shows, which are supported by ads. As part of this update, Amazon also added HBO content.

Instant Video users will be able to stream the “first episode” of select TV shows for free. The shows will include ad breaks before and during the video playback. Amazon already offers these features on Kindle Fire devices and on the Roku.

Many of the supported free shows are in the Amazon Prime catalog so Prime subscribers can avoid the ads. For those that are not in Prime, both subscribers and non-subscribers would see the ads.

There are hundreds of free episodes like The O.C., Wonder Woman, Roots, Two and Half Men, Leverage, The Flash, The Hills, 21 Jump Street, Duck Dynasty, The Good Wife, Suits, How I Met Your Mother, and Orphan Black. Some of the HBO shows that were added to the Amazon Instant Video app include The Sopranos, The Wire, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, and Deadwood.
