Apple Inc. (AAPL) is hiring Siri engineers for new languages
Apple wants to extend Siri to support more languages, according to MacRumors. Apple recently posted job listings for “Siri Language Engineers” that are fluent in Norwegian, Turkish, Danish, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Swedish, Dutch, Thai, Australian English, British English, Japanese, Cantonese, and Russian.
The ads were placed between June 10th and June 19th. The job listings says that Apple is seeking experts in “in foreign languages with strong software development skills.” The engineers are expected to have experience in iOS, OS X, and Java, PERL, and shell scripting.
Currently, Siri supports English (American, English, and Australian varieties), Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. The additional languages likely will not be added for a while.
However, Siri will have an always-on feature that can be activated by saying “Hey Siri” and the ability to open the App Store with a voice command.
