Marissa Mayer apologizes for showing up late to Cannes meeting
Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer gave an interview with Bloomberg where she said that she did not mean to slight ad execs that were left waiting for two hours during the Cannes Lions ad festival last week.
“I think the dinner is unfortunate how much attention it’s gotten. I was late. I apologized to IPG at the time and in no way meant for it to be a slight to them,” said Mayer.
Last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that Mayer was scheduled to meet several ad execs for a private dinner during the Cannes Lions festival in France, but showed up almost 2 hours late because she fell asleep.
One ad exec that was in attendance from IPG left before Mayer arrived. Some analysts believe that Mayer was acting careless towards courting ad execs and does not understand the value of clients, ad revenue, or agencies. This is what one of the ad execs at the dinner told The Wall Street Journal.
Nicholas Carlson of Business Insider also reported that Mayer was notorious for being late to meetings. She was late to meetings with interim CEO Ross Levinsohn and Unilever’s CEO in the past.
