Salesforce.com, Inc. (CRM) partners with Philips for healthcare IT platform

Salesforce.com, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) is partnering with Philips to create a new software platform to connect patients with healthcare in a faster and easier way than what is possible today.

Philips will be combining its medical technologies with Salesforce.com’s cloud computing platform with a focus on helping patients and care providers. Philips eCareCoordinator and Philips eCareCompanion, which are based on the Salesforce.com platform, will be launched in the next few months. 

“With this strategic alliance, Philips is making great strides to deliver real-time, digital healthcare solutions,” stated Frans van Houten, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Philips. “Healthcare data exists in many different forms and in many different systems today. Together with salesforce.com, we have a tremendous opportunity to reshape and optimize the way healthcare is delivered and provide better access to data across the continuum of care.”

It is typical for a patient to drive 30 minutes to a hospital for an appointment and wait 30 minutes to see the doctor for 10 minutes and drive 30 minutes back home. This is not optimal for patients. It makes more sense to develop applications that can help patients and doctors communicate remotely.
