Twitter Inc invests $10 million in MIT’s Media Lab
Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) has invested in a new program called the “Laboratory for Social Machines” at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab. The program will build new tools that analyze and enable communication on social platforms, according to VentureBeat.
“With this investment, Twitter is seizing the opportunity to go deeper into research to understand the role Twitter and other platforms play in the way people communicate, the effect that rapid and fluid communication can have and apply those findings to complex societal issues,” said Twitter CEO Dick Costolo in a statement.
MIT said that its goal is to create new platforms for individuals and institutions to identify and act on societal problems. MIT will focus on Twitter and its Gnip-powered tweet stream.
