Acer Releasing A Tablet Called The Iconia Tab A200 With Tegra 2 CPU

Acer has announced that they will be launching a tablet called the Acer Iconia Tab A200. The A200 is powered by the NVIDIA 1GHz Tegra 2 processor and it comes with 1GB of RAM. The A200 has a 10.1-inch display, 1280×800 resolution, and is available in multiple colors. You can buy the A200 in Titanium Gray or Metallic Red. It has a 2 megapixel front facing camera. The tablet has the Acer Ring built-in, which is a multitasking manager that has shortcuts to Google Maps, screenshot functions, and other applications. Acer started shipping the A200 to certain countries in November and the Ice Cream Sandwich version will be available worldwide in January. No word yet on pricing or availability yet. Acer Allegro Now For Sale In France and Taiwan

The Acer Allegro smartphone powered by Windows Phone is now available in France and Taiwan. Just a a refresher, the Acer Allegro has a 3.6-inch WVGA (800×480) display, 1GHz single-core Qualcomm MSM8255 CPU, 8GB internal storage, 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and a 1,300 mAh battery with 9 hours of talk time. The device is selling in France for €285 ($380). Customer in Taiwan will be able to buy it from the Synnex store on November 30th. [Engadget]

Intellectual Ventures Suing 13 Companies for Patent Infringement

Intellectual Ventures is suing a group of companies for patent infringement. Companies being sued include Acer, Adata Technology, Asustek Computer, Best Buy, Dell, Elpida Memory, Hewlett Packard, Hynix Semiconductor, Kingston Technology, Logitech International, Pantech and Wal-Mart. According to TechCrunch, the patents deal with memory technology and methods.

Intellectual Ventues brought another patent suit against nine other companies last year. Intellectual Ventures is headed by Nathan Myhrvold, former CTO at Microsoft.

Acer Cuts Their 2011 Tablet Shipping By About 60%

Acer Incorporated (TPE:2353) has cut their 2011 shipment target for tablets by about 60%. They are also expected to lower notebook shipments. Acer missed their last 3 quarterly forecasts and recently they saw their former CEO Gianfranco Lanci step down in March.

“The third quarter will be considerably more stable. It will be similar to the second quarter or better,” stated Acer Chairman J.T. Wang at a shareholder meeting. “The fourth quarter will be even better.”

The expected target for tablet shipments this year is expected to be between 2.5 to 3 million units. Earlier this year the expected shipments for the year was at around 5-7 million units. Acer said that they are expecting to sell 800,000 tablets in the second and third quarters. Last month Acer reported a 29.2% drop in total sales.

Google Confirms Launch Of Acer and Samsung Chromebooks Set To June 15th

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has confirmed that the Chrome operating system based Chromebook laptops powered by Acer and Samsung will be launching on June 15th. To get your hands on the Chromebook as a student, it costs $20 per month. Enterprise Chromebooks costs $28 per month. If you add $3 per month to each of those numbers, it will be 3G-equipped. Here’s the catch: consumers can buy these deals a la carte, but bigger organizations need to sign a 3-year deal and commit to 10 Chromebooks. [Engadget]

Acer Iconia Tab A500 Now Available At Best Buy For $450

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is now available for purchase at Best Buy for $450. The Iconia is powered by the Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) operating system. Other specs of the Iconia Tab A500 include a 10.1-inch screen 1280×800 TFT WXGA screen, NVIDIA Tegra 250 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, and 16GB of flash storage. Capacity can be increased to about 32GB through a microSD card. The Iconia Tab A500 also has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera for video chatting. Acer Names Jim Wong As Head Of Touch Business Group and PC Global Operations

Acer has named Jim Wong as the head of the Touch Business Group and PC Global Operations. After Acer launched a few tablet devices, Acer’s former tablet lead Gianfranco Lanci was ousted. Wong is replacing Gianfranco.

“For the past ten years Jim has led Acer’s global IT operations, including product development and logistics. In that time he has shown outstanding leadership and made important contribution to the company. He has also worked closely with our regional operations to thoroughly understand the needs of our marketing and channels at the front end operations. Therefore, we regard Jim as a well-qualified candidate to step into the role of Acer corporate president,” stated Acer Chairman and CEO J.T. Wang.

Acer Launches Aspire 4253, 5253, 5750, 5750G, 7750G, AG3600, One 522, Predator AG3600-U4082, and AS8950G

Acer has launched several new laptops, desktops, and tablets at CES. Here is a break down of the specifications of the Aspire 4253, 5253, 5750, AG3600, 5750, 5750G, 7750G, Aspire One 522, Predator AG3600-U4082, beTouch E210, and AS8950G.

The Aspire 5253 has a 15.6-inch laptop that starts under $500. It has a dual-core chip that is intended for netbook chips. The 5253 has the AMD Vision platform with integrated Radeon HD 6310 graphics. The 5253 has a 320GB hard drive, 4GB of RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium, 1.3-megapixel webcam, and HDMI video output. The Acer Aspire 5750, Acer 5750G, and Acer Aspire 7750G uses the quad-core i7-2630QM. The 7750G has 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and 750GB hard drive. The 5750 models have 4 or 6GB of RAM, up to 640GB of HDD space, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M GPU. The 5750 has integrated HD graphics, not the NVIDIA GeForce. The Aspire 7750G uses AMD for its GPU and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6550 or 6650 graphics cards. The 5750 and 5750G both have 17-inch 1,360×768 resolution screens. The 7750G has a 17-inch 1,600×900 display. The laptops have support for clear.fi.

The Acer Aspire Predator AG3600-U4082 costs $899 and it has an Intel Sandy Bridge Core i5 2300 quad core chip. Built in to the desktop is an NVIDIA GeForce GT 420 graphics cards. The budget AG3600 has a 1.5TB hard drive and a mini HDMI output. [CNET]

Acer has announced three new laptops that run on the Fusion APU. The Aspire One 522 has a 10.1-inch screen with WXGA resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, C-50 APU, AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics, WiFi, LAN, Bluetooth, 3G connection and 1080p video with HDMI output. The Aspire One 522 comes in green or black. No word on the price or availability yet.

The other two laptops are the Acer Aspire 15.6-inch 5253 and 14-inch 4253. These two laptops have the AMD E-Series accelerated processing unit, and it uses the Vision engine. The Aspire 5253 can hit up to 8GB of DDR3 SDRAM. Both of these laptops have WiFi built in. No pricing or availability information yet.

The Acer Aspire AS8950G has an 18.4-inch screen with 1920×1080 resolution, Core i7-2630QM processor, ATI Mobility Radeon 6850 graphics processor, 8GB of DDR RAM, and 750GB hard drive. There is a Blu-ray drive and FireWire port built in. The sound system built into this laptop is an Acer CineSurround with five built-in speakers and a dedicated subwoofer. Acer HN274H 27-Inch Monitor Has A 3D Display

Acer has announced a new monitor called the HN274H at CES. Nvidia announced that Acer will soon be releasing the HN274H 3D monitor that supports stereoscopic 3D and has a built-in 3D emitter. The monitor has a 1,920×1,080 resolution, dual-link DVI, HDMI 1.4 inputs, and will have a WLED backlight. Pricing and availability info is not yet known. [CNET]

Acer Liquid Mini and beTouch E210 Android Phones Coming To The UK In March

Acer has announced two new Android phones coming to the U.K. in March. On the left is the Liquid Mini powered by Android Froyo. It has a 3.2-inch 480×320 capacitive LCD touchscreen, 600MHz Qualcomm 7227 chip, 512MB of RAM, 512MB of ROM, 5 megapixel camera with 480p video recording on the back, DLNA connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and FM radio.

The beTouch E210 on the right has a keyboard, trackpad, 2.6-inch 320×240 resistive touchscreen, 416MHz ST Ericsson PNX6715 processor, 512MB of ROM, 256MB of RAM, 3.2-megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and FM radio.
