Adam Goldstein, known as DJ AM passed away yesterday in a New York hotel.  DJ AM most recently was found making mixtapes with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. Their mix tapes were quite popular on the Internet.  Their latest mix tape was heavily promoted on Twitter, the micro-blogging website that Barker and AM are heavily active in using.

On September 19, 2008 Barker and AM were touring for their mix tape and their Lear jet crashed. Four people died in that accident, but Barker and AM miraculously survived.  But since then AM and Barker were not the same.  Barker and AM were considering suing Lear and Goodyear for $20 million this past March.  DJ AM struggled to recover from his physical and mental injuries so he became addicted to drugs.

A few hours before DJ AM was found dead in his hotel room in New York, he sent out a tweet that said “New york, new york.  Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems.” For those of you that enjoy rap music, you will quickly realize that these lyrics that are part of a song by Tha Dogg Pound called New York, New York.

Tha Dogg Pound was a group that was signed to Death Row Records between 1992 and 2002.  The group comprised of Daz Dillinger and Kurupt.  Snoop Doggy Dogg appeared on several of Tha Dogg Pound’s songs.  The reason why the lyrics were saying that New York ain’t always what it seems is because there was a major conflict between East Coast and West Coast rappers at the time.  This song was supposedly a response to a song called L.A., L.A. which was dissing members of Tha Dogg Pound.

Goldstein’s last tweet is quite interesting.  Why he chose to quote Tha Dogg Pound’s song out of all the other songs about New York is a mystery, but one thing that is for sure is that AM will be missed.  I downloaded both of his mix tapes with Barker and enjoyed playing them when driving around in my car.  DJ AM also had an entertaining cameo in the 33rd episode of HBO show Entourage.

Adam Goldstein (also known as DJ AM) was in a major plane accident last year with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker.  Those two were the only survivors last September.  When they were flying, they were able to escape by sliding off the wings.  Now Goldstein wants financial damages paid to him.

Goldstein is seeking $20 million in damages total.  He wants about $10 million for medical expenses, lost earnings, and profit.  He also wants another $10 million for all the mental and physical pain that occurred since the flight that went down on September 19.

Goldstein is going after Learjet, Goodyear, and three charter operators in December.  The court documents filed this past Friday revealed the financial details.  This complain was an addition to a wrongful death lawsuit that him and Barker filed against the same parties.  Barker and Goldstein blamed those companies for the accidents.  The accident was because a tire had blown out during take-off.

Barker and DJ AM were touring for a mixtape that they put together at the time of the accident.
