ActionScript is an object-oriented language that was originally developed by Macromedia and is now owned by Adobe Systems. It is a dialect of ECMAScript, which means that it is a superset of the syntax of JavaScript. ActionScript is currently used for the development of websites and software that is targeted for the Adobe Flash Player. ActionScript 3.0 is the programming language for the Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR runtime environments. To get a better understanding of some of the applications that you can build with knowledge of ActionScript 3.0, I have listed some tutorials below.
Adobe Systems has released a beta version of Photoshop before a formal product release for the first time in seven years. Photoshop CS 6 is available as a free download from Adobe Labs. The commercial release will follow soon after.

You can buy Photoshop 6 as part of a Creative Cloud subscription for $50 per month, but the official price for the standalone software is not yet known. The final version of Photoshop 6 is expected to be available by the second quarter.

Photoshop 6 has a new interface design that has a dark theme. Two new features include Content Aware Patch options and the Content Aware move tool. There are also several new blur effects, a non-destructive crop tool, and a new Adaptive Wide Angle lens correction tool.

The Content-Aware Patch option allows users to select and duplicate a specific area of an image to fill in or patch a different an area of the same image. This means that it is similar to the Clone tool, but it is slightly more subtle. Content-Aware Move allows users to select and move objects to a new place in the image and Photoshop will automatically fill in the background behind the relocated object.

Vector layers in the new Photoshop allows users to apply dashed lines and gradient strokes. The layer names can be searched for as well.

Photoshop 6 has better auto corrections that are built into a database of corrections to similar images. Some of the new painting features include erodible brush tips, an Oil Paint filter, skin tone aware selection and masking.

Adobe Photoshop 6 has Background Save, Auto Recovery, and Present Migration and Sharing. The save and recovery feature is a way for Photoshop to back up and save work before crashing. The preset migration feature allows users to easily move their settings, workspaces, and tool presets to the new version.

Photoshop 6 utilizes Adobe’s Mercury Graphics Engine, which uses the graphics processor (GPU) instead of the computer processor (CPU) to speed up processor intensive functions. The Mercury Graphics system works with several graphics processors and it supports performance for tools such as Liquify, Puppet Warp, and Lighting Effects.

Photoshop CS6 and Bridge CS6 is compatible with multicore Intel processor Macs from 2006 and later running on OS X 10.6.8 or higher.

Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) has acquired digital marketing company Efficient Frontier. The acquisition will help Adobe add multi-channel ad campaign forecasting, execution, and optimization capabilities to their Digital Marketing solutions.

Efficient Frontier has social advertising buying capabilities for Facebook. Efficient Frontier has the ability use optimization algorithms to predict results and marketing ROI for clients.

These capabilities will be rolled into Adobe (Omniture) SearchCenter and Adobe (Omniture) SocialAnalytics. Adobe will also gain ownership of Context Optional, which Efficient Frontier acquired in May 2011 for about $50 million.

Efficient Frontier has a real-time bidding system for display ads and an auction-based buying suite for search, display, and social media. The transaction is expected to close in Adobe’s Q1 of 2012. Some of Efficient Frontier’s investors include Mitsui Ventures, Cambrian Ventures, and Redpoint Ventures.

Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) principal product manager for developer relations Mike Chambers wrote a blog post detailing one of the major reasons why the company has decided to end initiatives for mobile development of the Flash Player. Chambers admitted that Apple’s decision not to support the Flash Player on iOS was a major reason why the company ended mobile initiatives.

“The Flash Player was not going to achieve the same ubiquity on mobile as it has on the desktop,” wrote Chambers in the blog post. “This one should be pretty apparent, but given the fragmentation of the mobile market, and the fact that one of the leading mobile platforms (Apple’s iOS) was not going to allow the Flash Player in the browser, the Flash Player was not on track to reach anywhere near the ubiquity of the Flash Player on desktops.”

Adobe said that they would be focusing their efforts on Adobe AIR applications and HTML5. Adobe said that they will continue to fix bugs and provide security updates for the BlackBerry PlayBook and Android devices running Adobe Flash.

Adobe’s decision was not influenced by the passing of Steve Jobs. Chambers said “no matter what we did, the Flash Player was not going to be available on Apple’s iOS anytime in the foreseeable future” based on the underlying technology. “On mobile devices, [HTML5] has a level of ubiquity similar to what the Flash Player has on the desktop.”

“So, just to be very clear, contrary to what many have declared, Flash is not dead. It’s role and focus has shifted but we feel that it still fills important roles both on the web and mobile platforms,” said Chambers.

Adobe Systems Incorporation (NASDAQ:ADBE) announced yesterday that they would no longer be supporting Flash on mobile devices. The company has also revealed yesterday that they would no longer be supporting Adobe Flash on consumer electronics including web-connected TVs. Adobe plans to focus their energies on Adobe AIR and contribute to HTML5.

According to an Adobe spokesperson:

“Adobe will continue to support existing licensees who are planning on supporting Flash Player for web browsing on digital home devices and are using the Flash Player Porting Kit to do so. However we believe the right approach to deliver content on televisions is through applications, not a web browsing experience, and we will continue to encourage the device and content publishing community down that path.”

Adobe’s plans to bring Flash to connected TVs and Blu-ray players were part of their Open Screen Project. The idea for Open Screen Project was to have developers create Flash applications once they were able to get the technology distributed across web browsers, TVs, and mobile devices.

Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) has announced that they will be halting their efforts to develop and deploy Adobe Flash on mobile devices. Adobe has been delivering the Flash Player for mobile browsers to many different devices. However HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, exclusively on some devices like the iPhone and iPad. Adobe has officially announced that they will be working with Google, Apple, Microsoft, and RIM to drive HTML5 innovation.

Adobe Vice President and General Manager of Interactive Development Danny Winokur wrote the following message on the company blog:

Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer continue to develop Flash Player in the browser to work with new mobile device configurations (chipset, browser, OS version, etc.) following the upcoming release of Flash Player 11.1 for Android and BlackBerry PlayBook. We will of course continue to provide critical bug fixes and security updates for existing device configurations. We will also allow our source code licensees to continue working on and release their own implementations.

Adobe believes that the change will allow them to increase their investment in HTML5 and innovate with Flash where it can have the most impact in a specific industry such as advanced gaming and premium video. Adobe has already started working on Flash Player 12 with a list of new features for delivering high definition entertainment. The company will continue working with the W3C and WebKit to bring similar capabilities to HTML5 like they have done with CSS Shaders.
