Details About The Amazon Kindle Fire HDX, Mayday Support, And Mojito OS

Yesterday Amazon announced the new Kindle Fire HDX tablets.  The new versions of the Kindle tablet will be available in 7-inch and 8.9-inch sizes.  The tablets have a 2GHz Qualcomm quad-core processor, HDX display (339ppi and 4 million pixels), and 100% sRGB color accuracy with dynamic image contrast.  The tablets has the Amazon Fire operating system (version 3.0, known as “Mojito”).  The tablet is one-third lighter than previous versions of the Kindle and it has a new “all-day battery” with 11 hours of mixed use and 17 hours of reading time.

Amazon’s 7-Inch and 8.9-Inch Kindle Fire HD Is Now Available In Over 170 Countries

Amazon has announced that the 7-inch and 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD tablet is available in over 170 countries and regions around the world.  These devices are available for pre-order through and will start shipping on June 13th.  The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD costs $284 and the 7-inch costs $214.

Amazon: We Are Not Building A $99 Tablet

Earlier today, TechCrunch reported a rumor that Amazon is working on a $99 Kindle Fire HD which would have a 7-inch screen.  TechCrunch’s source was an not cited.  “It’s not happening–we are already at the lowest price points possible for that hardware,” said Amazon in a statement.

Amazon Appstore Downloads Grew 500% In The Last Year

The Amazon Appstore has recently announced that “app downloads in the Appstore have grown more than 500 percent over the previous year.”  This is quite impressive considering that does not have a platform of their own for apps.  They have essentially created a marketplace of Android apps called it the Amazon Appstore.  A lot of that growth came from strong sales of the Amazon Kindle Fire line of tablets. Setting Up Voice Guide and Touch Control For Vision-Impaired Kindle Fire Users will be adding two new accessibility features on the Kindle Fire.  The two new features are called Explore by Touch and Voice Guide.  The features will be added to the 7-inch Kindle Fire and 7-inch Kindle Fire HD.  These features already exist in’s larger tablets and will be added some time “early next year.”
